If you're gearing up for a family photo session in Phoenix, one of the most important decisions is pinning down a location. Thankfully, Phoenix and the surrounding areas offer a huge array of options.
Whether you want desert, orchard, urban, park, downtown, rustic, eclectic or a mix, your photographer will help you find the location that best suits your family's personality and style.
Some of the most popular family photo locations in the Phoenix area include:
Scorpion Gulch
Located in South Mountain, Scorpion Gulch is the stone skeletal base of what was once a trading post and general store. There are several roofless buildings with lots of stone, window and door-cutouts and plenty of texture and visual variety -- all against a desert and mountain backdrop.
The area is rather contained and there is parking just across the street so there's not a lot of walking around.
I love this location for both family and high school senior sessions.
Manistee Ranch
This historical ranch is located in the city of Glendale and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The grounds of Manistee Ranch feature on an old ranch house with photogenic stairs, a red barn, orange orchards, rose archways, and fits the bill if you're looking for a non-Arizona-looking option.
Downtown Phoenix
Downtown Phoenix is for you if you want edgy, urban, or hip. Many families like the colorful murals or top of the parking garage. Solid colors -- especially blues - with black and grey are the perfect color choices for outfits against these fun murals.
DC Ranch
Located in North Scottsdale, DC Ranch Market Street offers an array of yummy-looking restaurants and fun, boutique-style shops. But from a photography standpoint, there are a variety of textured concrete walls, stairs, industrial walls and barn doors, stone walls, and lots of lines to give photos a modern look. But there are also very natural areas with trees, cactus, and plenty of greenery.
Anthem Park
If you love a green park setting with waterfalls, a bridge, and perhaps even some flowers in bloom, then you're sure to love your family photos at the park. The park is often a good setting if you have little ones. They're able to run around and shake off some energy during the session. The waterfall always photographs extremely well and is a beautiful backdrop for those with blue eyes.
